"The Fifties was a time of major reconstruction in France.
Charles Deméry made the most of this new economic boom by instilling a new breath of life into the printed fabrics imported from the Indies several centuries beforehand, that conquered the hearts of the people of Provence. A crossroads of civilisations since Antiquity, Provence went on to endow the fabrics with the unique designs and character that have forged their worldwide reputation.

The basic patterns are timeless and the various eras are differentiated only by changes in their colours and shapes. The first models created by Nicole Barra in Avignon and Tarascon were snapped up by fans all along the Riviera and in particular in St Tropez, where the brand was first launched as a luxury product. From Chantal Thomas to the Camargue region, Mediterranean and gypsy cultures alike went on to inspire the many models unveiled over the next 40 years...
