Map of Bouches-du-Rhône

Welcome to Bouches-du-Rhône

Three ambiances filled with three different emotions - Marseille, a bustling city with a great cultural and ethnic mix, Arles and the Camargue with its wild untamed countryside, and Provence with a lifestyle all of its own.
This is an outstanding area offering a wide range of experiences - towns, countryside, culture, the sea, festivals, walking, arts and crafts, traditions, relaxation and a chance to meet other people.

"This fine stone abbey is located in Roque d'Anthéron, on the banks of Durance river. Built in the 11th century in the marshes (hence its name ""Sylva cana"" meaning reed forest), Silvacane is a pure example of medieval Cistercian architecture, and presented as one of Provence's three ""sister"" abbeys, alongside Sénanque and Thoronet.
Visitors to this tranquil place of worship, offering clever contrasts of light and shade, are welcomed by a serenely austere atmosphere and simple stone lines - the abbey is unfettered with furniture or paintings. Points of special interest include the church, cloister and refectory. Its marvellous acoustics led the abbey to become the venue for Roque d'Anthéron's prestigious international music festival.
