Camargue
Weekends in Camargue
Camargue is a sparsely-populated area. The road passes through very few towns or villages, which is what makes the place so very special. It is beautiful and untamed, a series of long stretches of water alternating with long tongues of land. Spend a weekend visiting Camargue and you will find incredibly varied, unspoilt countryside that you%u2019ll want to explore again and again.

A weekend break in Camargue
Why not spend a weekend in a chalet on a 4-star campsite and discover what makes Camargue tick.
A weekend in Camargue is an excellent, inexpensive introduction to the region:
- Visit the delightful village of Les Saintes Maries de la Mer, with its narrow streets lined with shops. Climb up to the terrace on the fortified church and enjoy the panoramic view.
- Take a cruise into the depths of Camargue on the Tiki III, a typical paddleboat. Explore the fascinating, mysterious side of Camargue, accessible only by water.
- Visit the bird sanctuary (Parc Ornithologique, only 8 minutes from the campsite). Stroll along the paths to see local wildlife and get amazingly close to the birds in a place steeped in peace and tranquillity and ideal for wildlife observation.
- Take a wagon ride round a ranch ("manade") and learn about the breeding of Camargue bulls for the area's bullfights (a cockade is removed from a bull’s horns; bulls are not killed here).
- Take a trip to Arles, a Roman town included in Unesco's World Heritage list.
